102 - Prelude
Schaffhausen (Switzerland), 2024open competition
The French word Prelude originally comes from the Latin praeludium, which means more or less introduction. In the context of an entrance, particularly in this design for the historic site of Munot Castle, it denotes the prelude or the beginning of a space or building, similar to how a musical prelude marks the start of a piece. A bridge and an entrance, though seemingly different in their physical forms and functions, share profound philosophical commonalities. Both serve as transitional elements, connecting distinct realms and facilitating passage from one state to another. A bridge spans physical gaps, linking separate geographical points, while an entrance marks the transition from the outside world into an inner sanctum or space.
